Free STEM Programs for Virginia Middle School Students.
VSGC offers FREE hands-on STEM programs where Virginia middle school students can explore science, technology, engineering, and space through exciting activities, experiments, and real-world learning experiences.
BLAST is a free, three-day residential STEM program for Virginia’s 8th and 9th-grade students with little or no prior STEM experience. Students stay on a college campus and participate in hands-on STEM activities designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and introduce them to future STEM opportunities.
Technology Exploration Saturdays is a FREE three-part series of hands-on STEM activities for Peninsula-area 7th and 8th-grade students and their parents. The activities, as well as career planning sessions for parents, are hosted by community partners across the Peninsula.
The Plant the Moon Challenge gives Virginia middle and high school students hands-on experience conducting plant growth experiments using lunar soil simulant while contributing to research that could support future NASA missions to the Moon. Participating educators receive lunar regolith simulant kits, a $100 supply stipend, mentoring from VSGC and Plant the Moon Challenge, professional development, and access to special speakers, activities, and virtual events focused on NASA’s Artemis mission.
