High-Tech Economic and Jobs Engine

The Commonwealth of Virginia is home to more than 500 aerospace companies, 65 public-use airports, two NASA facilities, the Virginia Spaceport Authority, and more. The aerospace and aviation industries make a $33 billion dollar economic impact and provide more than 166,000 jobs annually.

Definitions

Aviation: the operation of aircraft within Earth’s atmosphere; covering all aspects of air travel

Aerospace: encompasses aviation but also includes the design, development, and production of vehicles and technologies for travel beyond Earth’s atmosphere

Uncrewed Aircraft System: an aircraft that flies without human intervention, along with all the equipment needed to operate it safely and efficiently

Advanced Air Mobility: encompasses exciting emerging technologies that will revolutionize transportation by creating more efficient, safe, and affordable ways of moving people and cargo
