The Virginia Space Grant Consortium is offering a Private Pilot Ground School course for high school students statewide. Funded by the VSGC, the Private Pilot Ground School program is a rigorous program in which students immerse themselves in learning about weather, electronic navigation, flight systems and operations, and FAA regulations.
The course offers 60 hours of hybrid coursework, including synchronous instructional hours and asynchronous readings and assignments. Live lecture sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and receive the instructor’s signature on their application for a Private Pilot’s License when they are ready to apply. VSGC plans to offer the course to up to 50 students in late August through mid October 2024.
For any questions on this program, please contact Private Pilot Ground School program coordinator, Ian Cawthray, icawthra@odu.edu , representing Virginia Space Grant Consortium’s coordination of the program. Students accepted into the course will be working directly with their Certified Flight Instructor once the program begins.
